The Oak and the Rose
An oak tree and a rosebush grew,
Young and green together,
Talking the talk of growing things-
Wind and water aher.
And while the rosebush sweetly bloomed
The oak tree grew so high
That now it spoke of hings-
Eagles, mountain peaks and sky.
"I guess you think youre pretty great,"
The rose was heard to cry,
Screaming as loud as it possibly could
To the treetop in the sky.
"And now you have no time for flower talk,
Now that youve grown so tall."
"Its not so much that Ive grown," said the tree,
"Its just that youve stayed so small."

Weird-Bird
Birds are flyin south for winter.
Heres the Weird-Bird headin north,
Wings a-flappin, beak a-chatterin,
Cold head bobbin ba forth.
He says, "Its not that I like ice
Or freezin winds and snowy ground.
Its just sometimes its kind of nice
To be the only bird in town."
Woulda-Coulda-Shoulda
All the Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas
Layin in the sun,
Talkin bout the things
They woulda coulda shoulda done...
But those Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas
All ran away and hid
From otle Did.
SNOWBALL
I made myself a snowball
As perfect as could be.
I thought Id keep it as a pet
A sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first- it wet the bed
Listen to the mustnts
Listen to the MUSTNTS, child,
Listen to the DONTS
Listen to the SHOULDNTS
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WONTS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES
Then listen close to me-
Somebody Has To
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
Theyre looking a little bit dull.
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
For the eagles and starlings and gulls
Have all been plaining theyre tarnished and worn,
They say they want new ones we ot afford.
So please get ys
And your polishing jars,
Somebody has to go polish the stars.
Anything happen, child.
ANYTHING be.
